Gmail Go for Android will change the way you check emails

The Gmail Go app has been released on the PlayStore for low-end Android devices and uses lesser space than the full version.

Google has been aggressively pushing its Go suite of efficient and lighter apps as well as a lighter Android OS for smartphone users in developing markets. After releasing numerous Go apps on the PlayStore in the last few months, Google has finally released a Go version of an app that is utilised the most — Gmail. Yes, there’s a Gmail Go app slowly rolling out on the PlayStore across various regions.

The Gmail Go app is a lighter, faster and more data-efficient version of the standard Gmail app. Google says that app is suited for running on budget Android smartphones with older/ low-end processors and RAM at least 512MB. The app is also supposed to work on slow 2G networks, which is a common sight in underdeveloped/developing countries.

However, don’t think for a minute that this stripped-down version of Google’s email app is short on features. The app still allows you to log in multiple accounts and sort social as well as promotional emails. It also gives up to 15GB of free storage and offers offline content reading as well. But, in order to remain focused on its mission of saving data, it won’t load images automatically — users will have to tap on the images to view them.

The Gmail Go app will be slowly rolling out to most markets and if it pops up on your PlayStore home screen, then it is advisable to download it if you are facing performance issues with the existing suite of Google apps.
