BJP dares AAP to fulfil its ‘unrealistic promises’; Delhi Lt. Guv may invite BJP

Jaitley seeks to know if AAP is merely a 'freak phenomenon'; Delhi Lt. Guv may invite BJP.

New Delhi: The BJP, which remained short of the half-way mark in Delhi Assembly poll verdict, on Monday slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for making 'unrealistic promises' during its poll campaign.

Uncertainty continues over govt formation in Delhi

Challenging the AAP to form a government with Congress support instead of avoiding power, the BJP sought to know if the AAP is merely a 'freak phenomenon' or will be a lasting experiment. The AAP emerged as the second largest party with 28 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. The BJP conceded the AAP was its main rival in the Delhi polls.

On his latest Facebook posting, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley wrote: “This (AAP) party is unconventional. It has attempted to exploit the general mood of cynicism. It has made unrealistic promises and does not want to sit in a position of responsibility where it has to walk its talk.”

He also said that AAP in power will be like fish out of water.

He further wrote: “The very suggestion of being in the government to implement its policy and promises appears to be scary for this party. In a democracy, the voters vote in order to elect the government.”

Throwing a challenge to the AAP and the Congress, Jaitley said in the absence of clear majorities, forming a government is the art of the possible and the Congress can extend its outside support to the AAP.

AAP MLAs choose Arvind Kejriwal as leader in Assembly

Delhi Lt. Guv may invite BJP

Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung is expected to call the single largest party — the BJP, which along with its ally SAD one seat has 32 MLAs —to form government in Delhi. If the BJP declines, AAP, the second largest party with 28 seats, will be called.

Sources said even though both the parties declared that they would not stake claim, the LG will individually talk to leaders of the two parties, Dr Harsh Vardhan Mr Kejriwal.

After that the LG will send a report to the Union home ministry for future course of action. He may suggest President’s rule then, when the Assembly will be kept in suspended animation.

AAP an eye-opener, admit parties

Both the BJP and the AAP incidentally are confident of improving their tallies and getting a majority in the event of a fresh poll after six months.

The BJP feels if the Assembly elections are held along with the Lok Sabha polls, the party would benefit both ways as Mr Modi would be a dominating factor.

The BJP top guns are against forming government in Delhi now as they do not want the AAP to take the moral high ground and accuse the saffronites of horse trading.
