Only Allah controls me: Pak actor in row for anti-India tweets, defends self

Anwar apologised for his tweets, but later said that his apology had got nothing to do with he losing his job.

London: Days after he was sacked from Britain's most popular television soap for his offensive anti-India tweets, Pakistan-origin actor Marc Anwar, has said that he was on his way to quit his job before he was fired.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Anwar said that his contract with 'Coronation Street' was getting expired in November. He was sacked after he posted a series of tweets abusing Indians.

"Indians killing our Kashmir brothers and sisters," he wrote. He called Indians "b*****ds" and used other insulting terms. Anwar's posts hit out at India over the Kashmir dispute and suggested Pakistani actors should refuse to work in the country.

Following a backlash, Anwar apologised for his tweets, but later said that his apology had got nothing to do with he losing his job. He also added that he was anyway going to quit.

Anwar took to Twitter to defend himself. He wrote, "For the record, I was to leave show at the end of [my] contract in November. Apology is from regret for offending, not at early exit. Love all."

"No human controls my livelihood but My Allah. Never have never will grovel to anyone! Proud Muslim, proud Pakistani, very proud British. Oh and God save the Queen. Rule Britannia!," he said in another tweet.
