12-yr-old stands up to 11,000 anti-gay marriage protestors in support of gay uncle

Thousands of people had over the weekend protested against Mexico President's proposal to legalise same-sex marriage.

Guanajuato: When over 11,000 people took to the streets in Mexico to protest the President's proposal to legalise same-sex marriage, a solitary boy decided to take a stand against their 'hate' towards the LGBT community. A photo of the 12-year-old Mexican boy, standing in the middle of the street in an attempt to block the protesters in Celaya, has gone viral.

Thousands of people had over the weekend protested against Mexico President Enrique Peña Nieto’s proposal to make amendments to the country’s civil code to legalise same-sex marriage.

According to a report in Independent, the boy in the photograph taken by journalist Manuel Rodriguez stood up to the protesters in support of his gay uncle.

"I have an uncle who is gay, and I don’t like people hating him,” he told Rodriguez, who spoke with the boy after taking the picture.

At present, same-sex marriage is legal only in the country’s capital, Mexico City, and nine other states. It is illegal in rest of the country.
