Ramkumar Ramanathan earns Wawrinka praise

World No 4 tennis star says the Indian's hard work will improve his rankings.

Chennai: World No 4 Stanislas Wawrinka says Ramkumar Ramanathan will not have to worry about his rankings if he could continue to perform the way he did this week at the Chennai Open.

In a sparkling show, Ramkumar beat a top-100 player before giving a scare to world number 45 Aljaz Bedene in the quarterfinals on Friday.

I watched his game last night on television for some time. He played well yesterday with great attitude. His forehands are very good. If he continues to play like this for a year on tours and challengers, Ramkumar will improve on his rankings also, Wawrinka said after reaching the final.

Wawrinka was clinical in his 6-3 6-4 win over his friend Benoit Paire from France on Saturday.

"Chennai has been a lucky venue for me. I have won three titles so far and hope to do well tomorrow to achieve an hat-trick of titles. I am happy making the final for third time in a row. It is always tough to play against someone who knows your game well," he said.

As for his stupendous display of having won 22 matches without dropping a set in Chennai, he said, “I do not looking to such details and it happened. But, my focus is to win my matches and would also prefer to score wins from matches that are stretched to the decider.”
