HTC teases its first narrow-bezel U series' smartphone

The smartphone is expected to be the U11 Plus, a flagship model to directly compete with the premium phablets.

Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has been talking about a launch event on November 2 and has been leaking out teasers accordingly. A teaser image showing a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor was released online and now their latest teaser on Twitter has hinted at a smartphone with narrow bezels. From what it seems to us, it could be the rumoured HTC U11 Plus.

The HTC U11 Plus is supposed to be a more premium variant of the current U11 flagship. Apart from housing all the top-of-the-line internals such as a Snapdragon 835, up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, 12MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 3930mAh battery, it will introduce the concept of fullscreen displays with narrow bezels to HTC’s smartphone lineup. The U11 Plus is expected to sport a 6-inch display within a 5.5-inch form factor, putting it in competition with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30. HTC could also be launching the phone with Android 8.0 Oreo.

Evan Blass, the popular tipster, has also leaked out some pictures of the U11 Plus and although it is difficult to make out the display’s bezels in the black variant, we believe that it will be somewhat like the Google Pixel 2 XL (HTC might have used LG’s expertise in making narrow-bezel displays while co-developing the Pixel 2). The smartphone also seems to retain the U11’s premium glass body, which is something we liked on the standard U11.

Rumours of another midrange HTC smartphone being released alongside are adrift on the Internet — HTC U11 Life. This is supposed to be a toned-down version of the U11 with midrange internals and a smaller display. However, it is expected that this could be the Android One device from HTC’s stable. As of now, there’s no concrete information as to what will be unveiled on 2nd of November but you can stay tuned with us for everything related to the HTC launch event.
