Apple working on foldable iPhone; files patent

The US Patent and Trademark Office has revealed that the Apple has filed a patent application for a foldable display.

Apple seems to be working on a foldable iPhone that can be opened and closed like a book. According to 9to5Mac, the US Patent and Trademark Office has revealed that the Apple has filed a patent application for a foldable display.

“An electronic device may have a flexible portion that allows the device to be folded. The device may have a flexible display. The flexible display may have a bending region that allows the display to bend along a bend axis when the device is folded,” said a patent application published by The US Patent and Trademark Office.

It is also believed that the Apple is working with LG to develop the screen technology. Earlier reports suggested that Apple had plans to invest in an LG plant for production of a foldable display.

The 9to5Mac also stated that display may include an array of display pixels formed from liquid crystal display (LCD) components. It is also believed that the panel production of foldable iPhone could start from 2020.

Besides, the previous report suggests that Samsung too is working on a similar handset which may unveil in January.
