WhatsApp has shared its updated privacy and policy terms ahead of the EU’s upcoming GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), which is scheduled to update next month. The Facebook-owned company has mentioned these updates on its website blog.
In addition to the updated terms and policies, WhatsApp is also providing a tool to download users’ own data; furthermore, the messaging service has also mentioned its working in the respective FAQ section on its website.
Acknowledging Facebook’s data breach concern, WhatsApp has specifically mentioned they won’t be sharing users’ data with its parent company.
The blog post states, “We are not asking for new rights to collect personal information with this update. Our goal is simply to explain how we use and protect the limited information we have about you.”
“We are not currently sharing account information to improve your product and ads experience on Facebook. As we have said in the past, we want to work closely with other Facebook companies in the future and we will keep you updated as we develop our plans,” the company said.
WhatsApp has also revealed the additional safety tips and the actions they take on spam or unwanted messages as well, the company claims that any such ‘spam’ would be immediately shared and block the specific entity on both its platforms (WhatsApp and Facebook).
“In the coming weeks, you will be able to download and see the limited data that we collect. This feature will be rolling out to all users around the world on the newest version of the app,” WhatsApp said in its blog post.
