You could get to see the Galaxy S9, S9+ by January 2018

Samsung's next generation flagship offerings are rumoured to be unveiled at CES in Jaunuary 2018.

Samsung’s rumoured Galaxy S9 has been doing rounds for quite a while and we have come across some interesting facts and figures about this mystical smartphone. However, Evan Blass — a man who steals the attention of the tech journalism world, has given out some interesting details about these new Samsung offerings.

Evan is claiming that the Galaxy S9 will be the second iteration of this Galaxy S8. If you recall the similarities between the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S7, the latter was simply an upgraded version of the former, with all the attention being addressed under the hood. The Galaxy S9 will also share the same fate — retain the design of the S8 but have completely new innards. They will retain the 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Infinity Display panels from the present S8 lineup. However, they will have a completely different soul.

Both them are rumoured to be running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset manufactured using the 10nm manufacturing process. The S9 will come with 4GB of RAM whereas the S9 + will sport 6GB of RAM. Both will sport 64GB of internal storage at least and will give an option for expandable storage. Additionally, the pair of S9 models will also retain the 3.5mm headphone jack, thus making them one of the few flagships to sport two separate ports for charging and audio.

Another revision that the S9 series will flaunt is the repositioning of the fingerprint scanner. Blass says that the fingerprint scanner will still be on the rear but will now be placed under the camera module instead of sitting by the side. The 2017 flagship models were having their fingerprint scanners situated in an odd position beside the camera, making it one of the major complaints on these smartphones.

Apart from these, Samsung will also introduce a new version of DeX dock that will allow for the phone to be used as a virtual keyboard or touchpad while docked. Even though the leak has been presented by Evan Blass, we should take this with a pinch of salt as there’s still a considerable amount of time before Samsung drops a teaser for their upcoming flagships.
