LEAK: 2018 OLED iPhone X could be cheaper than 2017 model

The 2018 iPhone flagship model could retain the 5.8-inch OLED panel and will carry a cheaper price tag.

When the iPhone X came out last year, Apple broke all records by making it one of the most expensive smartphones it has ever built. However, the iPhone X appealed to geeks and the image-conscious alike with its wide array of next-gen smartphone technology loaded onboard. One of the primary features was its narrow-bezel ‘notched’ OLED display, which is manufactured by Samsung Displays. Apparently, leaks suggested that Apple could be ditching the OLED panel for bringing down the price of the iPhone by a few notches (pun intended). However, it seems that Apple isn’t going to do that.

Digitimes Research analyst Luke Lin suggests that Apple had initially planned to roll out three iPhone models, with the cheapest one set to sport an LCD panel for keeping the prices low. OLED panels are known to be expensive, especially in the spec that Apple required for implementation in its iPhone X. However, it seems that Apple has found some other way to bring down the price without touching the display department. Therefore, the OLED panel stays, allowing Apple to retain the strong points of its 2017 flagship model. In fact, the ‘2018 iPhone X’ is predicted to be cheapest of the three models that are planned to launch this year.

It is assumed that Apple could be cutting down somewhere in the internal specifications to balance the price while retaining the expensive OLED panels. It’s also believed that Apple has renewed its contract with Samsung for reasonable-priced OLED panels. If this rumour turns out to be a reality, then the 2018 iPhone flagship could be doing even better numbers for Apple than it did last year. However, these are still rumours, so don’t start betting your money on any fact yet, The 2018 iPhones are expected to be unveiled by September of this year.
