Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi Note 3 in India and the device was well accepted by the masses. The main reason—a mainstream smartphone sold at a budget price. The device incorporates high-end features which includes the latest Snapdragon 650 chipset with 3GB of RAM, a full HD display and a 16MP primary camera. The USP of the device lies in the fingerprint sensor and a 4050mAh battery, which is usually found on high-end devices.
On the camera front, Xiaomi did not mention anything about the camera’s capabilities of recording 4K videos. In fact, the camera can (by default) capture full HD 1080p videos at 30fps. The default camera app that bundles along with MIUI, the custom Android Lollipop-based user interface by Xiaomi, also limits the camera’s recording capabilities to full HD videos.

However, a latest discovery by many users and fans out there revealed that the Redmi Note 3 can actually capture 4K videos with a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2178 pixels and a frame rate of 26.2fps. Installing a third party application, such as Google Camera or Open Camera enable the camera to capture 4K videos. The results are definitely visible when you differentiate the recordings taken from both the original stock camera app at 1080p and the third-party apps at 4K resolutions. Those who already own the Redmi Note 3 can make use of the third-party applications freely.

However, one must note that using the camera for 4K videos will burn higher battery power, heat up the device (though only marginally) and definitely exhaust the internal storage. So if you are having a Redmi Note 3 with just 16GB of internal storage, you won’t be able to enjoy much of the 4K video recording feature since you will fall short on storage space.
Hopefully Xiaomi’s developers will incorporate 4K recording options in the next update of MIUI.
