Now you can chat on YouTube with your peers

The latest update to YouTube for Android and iOS adds a new sharing platform to ease sharing of videos with peers.

If you are a regular YouTube user, then you must have shared hundreds of videos with your peers. YouTube is, without a doubt, the most popular platform for watching videos and its content highly shared on social media platforms as well as your closed messenger groups. Till now, if you felt the need to pass on video links to your friends, you had to take help of other messenger platforms like WhatsApp, Hike, Hangouts and Facebook Messenger. However, Google has now added another convenient method to share your favourite stuff from YouTube.

The latest update to the YouTube app for Android and iOS adds a new tab by the name of ‘Shared’. Once you tap it, it leads to a Google Allo-like chat interface wherein one can share YouTube videos directly with your contacts. You can even create your own groups just like you do on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Apart from sharing videos, you can also chat with the contact(s) using text and emojis, just like you do on other chat platforms. You can even reply using videos to messages or invite other people to your conversation.

Google believes that this new addition to the YouTube app makes for a more convenient sharing experience with contacts. "We’ve been experimenting with a better way to share videos on YouTube since last year. Thanks for all your feedback, we made some improvements and are now ready to roll out this new sharing feature to all users globally," said Benoît de Boursetty, Product Manager, YouTube.

However, if you think that sharing videos on WhatsApp is better, you can continue doing that. The update is rolling out to the smartphone users across the world and if you haven’t got, keep checking for the update to arrive in your app list on the Play Store or the App Store.
