Nokia teases launch of 6, 5, 3 and 3310, confirms Nokia 3310 shipping

Nokia is hosting an event in New Delhi today and is speculated to reveal the release date of the phones

Not many months have passed since the announcement of latest Nokia smartphones and the revamped version Nokia 3310, yet many are eagerly waiting to get their hands on the devices.

In late February Nokia stole the show from all smartphone vendors at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) held in Barcelona after it displayed a revamped version of a decade-old Nokia 3310.

The company launched three Android-powered smartphones Nokia 6, 5 and 3, along with the Nokia 3310 (2017), bringing the brand who had once lost its glory into limelight again.

At the time of the global announcement HMD Global, who now owns the rights to market the Nokia brands, was said to bring in aforementioned devices in the second quarter of 2017, that is sometime around between May and June.

Interestingly, the firm is reportedly hosting an event in New Delhi today and is speculated to reveal the release date of the phones.

But ahead of any official statement, Nokia has put out a Star Wars-themed video about the phones on its Twitter handle. The tease video has been posted with a tagline, “Coming to your galaxy very soon… Nokia smartphones on Android!”

The video starts with the Star Wars theme music and showcases the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3, touting one of them saying “I’m your father,” which brings in the Nokia 3310 (2017) that touts saying “I’m the father of you all.”

The video ends with the tagline “May the 4th be with you,” confirming the Nokia phones will be launched soon.

Surprisingly, just a few hours after the teaser video the firm confirmed shipping of Nokia 3310, with the tweet reading, “Your 17 year wait is over, now shipping. #Nokia3310.”

To recall, the new 3310 qualifies as a “feature phone”. Unlike the smartphone which is capable of providing 3G/4G connectivity, Nokia 3310 relies on 2.5G connectivity and runs on S30+ operating system, which allows web browsing in its 2.4-inch display screen.

HMD claims the coloured-screen phone has month long stand-by and can deliver 22 hours of talk-time, ten times more than the original. The new Nokia 3310 also sports a 2MP rear camera and comes preinstalled with a new the modern version of the classic “Snake” game. It is available in four colour variants—Warm Red, Yellow, both with a gloss finish, and matte finished Dark Blue and Grey. It has been priced at €49 (appox. under Rs 3,500).

According to a recent listing spotted on OnlyMobile.com, the Nokia 3310 (2017) is said to carry a price tag of Rs 3,899.
