Xiaomi phones on Android Oreo to support LDAC audio

Xiaomi is rolling out support for LDAC audio codec on all devices running Android Oreo.

When it comes to rolling out updates, Xiaomi really likes to take its time. While most of the world’s eligible smartphones are preparing to move on to Android P, Xiaomi has recently initiated the transition to Android Oreo for its most popular devices. However, Xiaomi makes sure that its custom MIUI OS is feature-laden and is rolled out to the public without major bugs. One of the latest additions to their latest iteration of MIUI is the provision of the LDAC audio codec, making it sweet for audiophiles.

According to a report from MyDrivers, the latest developer build of MIUI based on Android Oreo brings support for LDAC audio codec. It’s also mentioned that all handsets running on the stable build of MIUI based on Android Oreo will support LDAC audio. The provision of LDAC audio will aid for improved audio quality on supported Bluetooth headsets.

When Google announced Android Oreo last year, they baked in the support for LDAC audio codec into AOSP. Originally announced in 2015 by Sony, LDAC enables faster wireless audio transmissions at speeds of up to 990Kbps, aiding for more details in the audio files.

However, in order to enjoy the latest audio codec, you will need to have compatible audio gear. Additionally, you will also need to download audio files that support a bitrate of 990Kbps.
