This $1200 smartphone will have a holographic display

The manufacturer claims that the smartphone will be able to switch between 2D to holographic mode.

Smartphones these days have been thriving to provide cutting-edge technology to people. Samsung showcased its bezel-less display on the Galaxy S8 smartphone, HTC U11 featured its unique Edge Sense that makes it squeezable. So, can we any other breakthrough innovation in the smartphone industry? RED, the high-end camera maker thinks it has one revolutionary smartphone technology – a holographic mobile display.

RED has announced a premium smartphone by the name of Hydrogen One that will feature a display with the capability to switch “seamlessly between traditional 2D content, holographic multi-view content, 3D content and interactive games.” The company says that the 5.7-inch display will use nanotechnology to do the conversion.

The company’s founder, Jim Jinnard, assures that one has to see it believe it. The display is not a lenticular-like existing display technology on smartphones. Red says that the phone will also use an algorithm to convert stereo sound into multi-dimensional audio for providing a completely immersive experience. The smartphone will also have a provision for modular attachments, just like the ones on Lenovo’s Moto Z line-up or Andy Rubin’s Essential PH-1 smartphone. The phone is also supposed to work with the company’s line-up of cameras.

The smartphone is subject to change of design and certain features before its launch in 2018. There will be a base version made of aluminium for $1,195 and users can also opt for the $1,595 Titanium variant.
