Sony unveils new Xperia phones at IFA 2016

The smartphones are expected to be available sometime around mid-October.

Sony has announced two new Xperia smartphones. The new line-up includes the Xperia XZ and a smaller version of Xperia X, named Xperia X Compact.

In terms of specification, the Sony Xperia XZ features a 5.2-inch full-HD display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels, and supports Sony’s own software technology Triluminos and X-reality to boot up its colour and brightness. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage with microSD card expansion up to 200GB. Xperia XZ comes packed with a 2900mAh battery with Quick charge. It sports a 23MP rear camera with Sony’s IMX300 sensor and LED flash, while the front camera sports a 13MP sensor. The device is also IP68 certified for water resistance.

The Xperia X Compact features a 4.6-inch display with 720p resolution, powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. In terms of camera, the device will sport 23MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. It also comes with USB Type-C port and is packed with 2700mAh batter with Quick Charge 2.0.

Both smartphones will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the company’s own Xperia UI. The Xperia XZ will cost about $600 (approximately Rs 39,600), while the price of the Xperia X compact is still unclear. The smartphones are expected to be available around mid-October.
