Samsung's new ultra-premium flip phone launched

Samsung has unveiled yet another expensive flip phone 'W2018' in China.

Samsung has unveiled yet another expensive flip phone — the W2018, during a launch event in China. Samsung’s latest phone is a fresh take on the retro-inspired flip phone design.

The phone comes with a flagship-level specification and a camera with the world’s widest aperture ever featured on a smartphone. The new phone also marks the ‘W’ lineup’s 10th anniversary. The smartphone is rumoured to cost $2000 (approximately Rs 1,29,041).

The W2018 sports a dual display setup — a 4.2-inch full HD AMOLED display on top of the lid protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor clubbed with 6GB of Storage which is expandable up to 256GB. The device is fuelled by 2,300mAh battery charged via the USB-C port.

The W2018 also comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, Samsung’s Bixby assistant and with a dual-SIM slot. The phone only runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box although the company has promised that an update to Oreo 8.0 will be available soon.

On the photography front, the W2018 sports a 12MP rear camera with f/1.5 aperture and a 5MP front camera. The South Korean giant claims that the rear camera can capture sharp images in less light. The W2018 comes in two colour variants — Elegant Gold and Platinum.
