IIT-Bombay's fastest electric sports car ready for racing in UK

The fastest racing sports car is completely engineered by the IIT-Bombay students at the campus.

One of the most proud moments for the students of IIT-Bombay is the fastest electric sports car developed by them, which is ready for race. The ORCA is claimed to be the fastest racing car in India and can speed at 145 kmph with an acceleration of 0-100 in less than 3.5 seconds. The car is all set and ready to compete in the Formula Student racing in UK, this July.

The OCRA is an electric car and is completely designed and built by the IIT-Bombay students at the Mumbai campus. The car has been worked upon by more than 70 students from more than 8 streams of engineering and the project took them around 10 months for conceptualization and execution, while testing it took over two months.

The car has been built with more than 20,000 components and the new chassis design weighs just 29kg, which was reduced from the previous version that weighed 55kg. The car is designed to ensure the safety of the driver and the car’s surroundings by using low-voltage safety systems developed by the students themselves. The OCRA is the fifth version of the electric car and uses 95 cells to deliver a continuous power of 80 kilowatts.
