OLX redesigns app for an improved user experience

The new app was rolled out to all of OLX's Android users by September 27.

OLX recently announced the launch of its new OLX app which according to the company is set to 'help increase the penetration of online classifieds across regions, age-groups and categories.'

The new app comes with several upgrades that are expected to fulfill the consumer needs.

For instance, Olx has made it mandatory for all users – sellers and buyers – to register for accessing the platform. Mandatory log-ins will imply that there are no anonymous users on OLX anymore. This will promote a safer environment especially for women users.

Additionally, the new OLX app has also reduced the Ad posting time by more than 50 per cent by introducing the image recognition technology. The image recognition technology generates an auto-title and auto-category for users’ item to be posted. ‘All one needs to do is to take a photograph of the item, state the price, and it’s good to go. This change makes the posting process super simple and will be extremely beneficial for the new-to-net population,’ OLX said in a statement.

Moreover, the new OLX app also protects the user’s privacy by introducing a set of default settings that does not reveal the phone number of the seller. The only way one can connect to the buyer or the seller is through OLX chat.

Another added feature includes the hyper local experience that allows users to find products within their vicinity. ‘This particularly helps facilitate transactions for low-value items in the under-penetrated categories for which it does not make sense to travel large distance,’ the company added.

The new app was already available to Android users since September 27. The remaining users will be able to avail the app in the coming weeks.
