WhatsApp is extending support for a few platformsBlackBerry 10 (and BlackBerry OS 7+) and Nokia S40 until December 2017

WhatsApp had earlier announced to drop support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 from June 30, disappointing many customers. But almost 10-days before the decided date of “end-of-life” for its service on the aforementioned platforms, WhatsApp is extending support for a few platforms—BlackBerry 10 (and BlackBerry OS 7+) and Nokia S40 until December 2017, reported CrackBerry.

According to the report, extend of “end-of-life” date was first reported by WhatsApp fan blog WhatsAppen.

The messaging app will stop working on Nokia Symbian S60 platform from June 30, 2017.

This is the second time when Facebook-owned WhatsApp has pushed the end-of-life for its service on BlackBerry’s platform. The first time, it extended the support for BlackBerry OS to June 30, 2017, from the initial deadline set as December 2016. The company has already dropped support for older operating systems, including Android older than v2.3.3, Windows Phone 7, and iOS 6 (or older) platforms.

The messaging app is currently used by over 1.2 billion users globally and by over 200 million users in India alone.
