Google is scheduled to automatically delete backup of your Android device stored on Google Drive if you remain inactive on the device for more than two months.
The procedure was first alerted by a Reddit user when all of his data was found unavailable after being inactive on his device for a period of two months. He also said that Google removed his backup without any “proactive notice at all.”
“There was no warning from Google. They just deleted my data. There’s apparently an expiration date that shows up under the backup if I had checked the Backup folder sooner, but there was no notification, no email, no proactive notice at all, and most importantly, no option to use the 100GB of my Drive storage to keep my backup,” said the Reddit user.
According to a report by The Verge, if the device is unused for two weeks, Google Drive displays an expiration date below the backup – a countdown of how much time a user is left with before it completely wipe off the data.
Do note, once removed from the Drive, there’s no way to restore the data. So we advise you to keep an eye on expiration date before you backup vanishes completely.
