Acharya Nagarjuna University students invent solar two-wheeler

The students said that solar bikes were without gears but they made solar bike with gears and this is the first solar bike with gears.

GUNTUR: The students of Acharya Nagarjuna University invented a green solar bike which would run for six hours with solar power charging of two hours. The students of ANU College of Engineering made the bike.

The students said that solar bikes were without gears but they made solar bike with gears and this is the first solar bike with gears. Students, G. Sumali, H. Lakshmi, Y. Manjula, M. Jayadev and B. Mohan, with technical cooperation of ANU mechanical workshop technician Rajesh, made the solar gear bike.

The students said that first they brought an old non-working bike and removed the unnecessary parts like petrol tank. After making changes to the body, they fixed a motor capable of 25 km per hour speed with installation other electronic parts and alteration to the engine, a dry type battery to store the solar power and a solar panel on the backside of the bike.

They explained that the solar power acquired from the solar panel would be stored in the battery and it supplies power to the engine. They said that if the solar power is unavailable, the bike can be recharged with electric power. They are working to increase the speed of the bike to 90 km per hour by using acid-type battery.

The students said that after further development and modification they are planning to apply for patent rights to the solar bike for commercial purposes.
ANU College of Engineering principal Prof. P. Siddhaiah praised the efforts of the students and said that the ANU is promoting innovations in all possible manner by giving support to the students. He expressed hope that this solar bike will be a hit on the roads soon after completion of experiments and asserted on the need for using solar technology to restrain pollution.
