Mercedes-AMG celebrates its 50 years with new AMG GT C Coupe

The company has unveiled the GT C as both a coupe and roadster versions, with GT S and GT R as higher performance models.

Mercedes Benz with its collaboration with AMG has unveiled a new addition to the performance-oriented team at the Detroit Auto Show, the AMG GT C. The coupe is also being treated to a special 50th anniversary model which comes with new refinements and power for the AMG GT and GT S models which are additionally made.

The company has unveiled the GT C as both a coupe and roadster versions, with GT S and GT R as higher performance models. As contrary to upgrading of technical updates and more power, the design remains the same 15-bar front grille, which signals their kinship with the company’s GT3 race car.

For the GTs, Mercedes has given the 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo engine a few tweaks, resulting in power upgrades. The standard AMG GT and GT Roadster now have an output of 476 horsepower — an increase in boost of 14 horses. Also, Mercedes has boosted the torque figure, bringing it to an astounding 630 Nm.

The GT S model also goes through engine upgrades with power now resting at 522bhp and 670Nm of torque. The GT C now has 557bhp and 680Nm of torque. However, the GT R is the most powerful with power pegged at 585bhp and 700Nm of torque meaning which the GT R can do zero to sixty miles an hour in less than 3 seconds with a top speed of 318 kmph.

The GT C coupe is wider than the GT and the GT S models. The AMG GT C shares the GT line's chassis and suspension system, with many major components being made of forged aluminium for lighter weight. The GT C has AMG RIDE CONTROL, an adaptive sport suspension also found in the GT R model. This electronically-controlled, active damper system changes almost instantaneously to conform to driving speed and road conditions.
