Google working on brand new OS for IoT products

The project makes sense as Google has several IoT products in the market including OnHub and Google Home.

It has been learnt that search giant Google has started working towards developing a standalone operating system which has no links with Android or Chrome OS.

The project, dubbed Fuchsia, is the name of a flower and gives the name of a colour. According to reports, the project has been described as: “Pink + Purple = Fuchsia (a new operating system.”

The new OS, though, has been speculated to be destined for the IoT market. The proeject uses a custom kernel called Magenta, based on LittleKernel—a project designed for embedded systems, especially IoT devices.

The project makes sense as Google has several IoT products in the market including OnHub and Google Home. However, it is not only for IoT platforms and can also run on other types of platforms such as smartphones, tablets, and regular PCs.

Also discussions in Fuchsia’s IRC channel indicated that the company will soon add Raspberry Pi3 support as well.
