Creator of the Android operating system Andy Rubin is planning to introduce a high-end bezel-less smartphone in the market by opening a new company, called Essentials, reported Bloomberg.
Rubin in November 2015 registered Essential Products Inc. with Claifornia regulators. Last year, the company registered “Essentials” with the US patent and Trademark Office.
In the listing, the company described smartphones, tablets, accessories and “computer operating software for mobile phones” among its goods and services.
It is still unclear whether the smartphone will run on Android or not, however, the reports confirmed that it will be a high-end smartphone with a large edge-to-edge screen, but will still be smaller than Apple iPhone.
The smartphone will be manufactured by Foxconn, and is expected to be announced in the mid-2017.
Rubin has assembled a team of 40 people filled with former employees of Apple and Alphabet for his venture.
Rubin sold Android to Google in 2005 and spent eight years at Google building the software. Later in 2014, he started off with his new venture, Playground Global, which primarily focused on artificial intelligence, robotics, and augmented reality projects.
