Foxconn is among the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturers. It also assembles products for brands such as Apple and Sony. The company has a work force of over one million employees across all its factories in China. However, the tech giant has faced a number of scandals in the recent years especially from employees.
Recent report suggests that a former senior manager at Taiwan has been accused of stealing and selling 5,700 iPhones, worth US$1.56 million in China. The manager is identified by his family name, Tsai. He worked in the testing department.
According to Taiwanese prosecutors, Tsai instructed around eight employees at Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen city to smuggle thousands of iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s. Tsai and his accomplices sold the testing phones, which were supposed to be scrapped, to stores in Shenzhen and made nearly Tw$50million from 2013 to 2014, said the New Taipei district prosecutor’s office.
“Foxconn reported the case to Taiwanese authorities following an internal audit and Tsai was questioned after he returned to the island earlier this year and was released on bail,” reported news agency Asiaone. “Tsai was charged with breach of trust and faces a maximum 10-year jail term,” the report added.
