Facebook will scan your face for logging in

Leaks suggest that Facebook is testing facial recognition for logging into accounts in case you forget your password.

Facial recognition is the next big thing in biometric verification and with Apple using it in one of their flagship products, the trend for using facial recognition as an alternative to fingerprint scanner will catch on with manufacturers as well as users. Therefore, it is important that the world should start preparing for the next-gen biometric verification method, which explains why Facebook is testing facial recognition to log into accounts.

According to a tweet from TheNextWeb’s Matt Navarra, Facebook is working on a facial recognition feature to help users secure their account. Another report from TechCrunch states that Facebook’s facial recognition will work only when someone has been locked out of his/her account. Therefore, the password will still be the primary verification system, failing which the facial recognition feature will be used to log in the user. Nothing else has been revealed about the feature yet.

The most curious fact that we want to know is whether this will be applicable only for smartphones with advanced facial recognition features such as the Apple iPhone X and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, or on generic smartphones featuring a front camera. If this method is secure enough for daily log-in scenarios, we expect this method to become the preferred verification method that Facebook users will opt for.
