Samsung has launched its third-generation Gear S smartwatch, the Gear S3, in India at a price of Rs 28,500. The smartwatch will go on sale in the Indian market from January 18.
Samsung had first unveiled the Gear S3 at Berlin’s IFA tech show in August last year.
Samsung Gear S3 will be available in two variants, including Classic and Frontier. The higher-end version, Frontier, can be connected directly to 4G mobile networks, while the Classic option relies on Bluetooth connectivity to a smartphone.
The Frontier variant of Samsung Gear S3 predecessor, Gear S2, was limited to 3G.
The Samsung Gear S3 features a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360x360 pixels, protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass SR+ panel. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Exynos 7270 processor, coupled with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.
Both the variants of Gear S3 are powered by a 380mAh of battery, which has been claimed to deliver up to four days of battery life on moderate usage. The Gear S3 smartwatches are compatible with all Android smartphones running on Android 4.4 and above operating system with over 1.5GB RAM, iOS 9.0 and later, and smartphones iPhone 5 and above models.
The watch features a Full Colour Always-On Display mode, which allows the screen to display about 16 million colours even during sleep mode, sensors like accelerometer, Gyro, Barometer, heart-rate monitor, ambient light and a speedometer.
In terms of connectivity, it features WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC and MST (for making payment via Samsung Pay) and a built-in GPS. The Frontier model also supports an LTE connectivity for voice-calling.
The devices run on the Tizen operating system, allowing users to reject calls, accept notifications using the rotating bezel. The Samsung Gear S3 has a built-in speaker let users to take and make calls on the device.
Lastly, the Gear S3 is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. Additionally, the Frontier variant features shock resistance.
