Fenesta Open: Dalwinder Singh, Mahak Jain bag national titles

Fifth seed Mahak showed good anticipation and strokes on either flank to tease her stronger opponent.

New Delhi: Dalwinder Singh and Mahak Jain pulled off upset wins over top seeds Suraj R. Prabodh and Zeel Desai respectively, in the finals of the Fenesta Open national tennis championship at the RK Khanna Stadium on Saturday.

Fourth seed Singh wiped out top seed Suraj R.Prabodh 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s final while teenager Jain used her good approach and sound technique to dump Desai 7-5, 6-3 in the women’s singles.

Singh, who won an ITF title in Jasoval, Punjab, last year has had an up-and-down run since then. This week the Punjab boy looked impressive.

Fifth seed Mahak showed good anticipation and strokes on either flank to tease her stronger opponent.

“It feels great winning the first Fenesta women’s tournament. I am inspired to work harder in future tournaments,” she said.

In the U-18 category, seventh seed Sacchitt Sharma upset third seed Dhruv Sunish 6-3, 6-4 to win the boys’ title while seventh seed Vaidehi Chuadhari eased past top seed Akansha Bhan 6-3, 6-0 in the girls’ final.
