AP Offering Job and Land to Asian Games Tennis Doubles Silver Medalist Saketh Myneni

VIJAYAWADA: Tourism and Youth Advancement Minister RK Roja has said the state government would give a job to Asian Games Tennis Doubles Silver Medalist Saketh Myneni on the lines of Badminton International Players PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and Archer Vennam Jyothi Surekha.

She said the state government was allotting land to set up a tennis academy in the state for Saketh. “The state cabinet has decided to give a job and allow a site to Saketh Myneni,” she said.

In view of the winning of a silver medal in the Asian Games held in Hangzhou in China, the AP Lawn Tennis Association organised a felicitation programme for Saketh Myneni at the PB Siddhartha Academy at Mogalrajapuram in Vijayawada on Sunday.

Roja attended the function and felicitated Saketh Myneni.

She said Asian Tennis Doubles silver medalist Saketh Myneni was proud of being a native of Andhra Pradesh and did a lot to reach this stage. “Saketh was lost to us during the past TD government’s term. So, chief Minister Jagan Reddy, adviser Sajjala Ramakrishna and myself discussed this and decided to give a job to Saketh Myneni. The government is willing to give land to Saketh Myneni to start a tennis academy in the state,” she said.

“Saketh Myneni is an inspiration to others in sports and games. Tennis is a costly game and he faced a lot of hurdles to win the Asian Silver Medal in his 12 years of journey in Tennis,” Roja said.

She noted that the Indian contingent has created history to win around 107 medals, of them the Telugu girl Vennam Jyothi Surekha besides Jyothi Yarraji, Dhiraj, Harika, Humpy and Saketh were a part.

The minister expressed her concern about the lack of sports and games facilities due to the 2014 state bifurcation. “However, at this stage, the state government is giving top priority to sports and games,” she said. “Sports is one of the subjects in education. So everyone should learn sports and games as a compulsory subject,” she said.

Vijayawada mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, Kamma corporation chairperson Tummala Chandrasekhar, former MP Ganga Raju, lawn tennis association vice president Pattabhi Ramaiah, secretary Rama Kumar, YSRC leaders Devineni Avinash and Boppana Bhavakumar were present.
