Kochi ready to fight it out

The 22nd national championship is taking place at Regional Sports Centre at Kadavanthra till August 26.

For five days, Kochi is hosting the National Kick Boxing championship, the ever first in south India. Organised by Power Fight, the event has the who’s who from the fighting scenario converge under one single roof down south. Some of the major teams to fight it out are the Indian Army, Defence and Assam Rifles. The event is taking place in seven categories — semi contact, light contact, full contact, low kick, acrobatic form, musical form and K-1 Rule.

“The full contact and K-1 Rules are open only for professionals. They are the real ‘bloodshed fights’, in such a way that knock out is the only way to defeat the opponent. The others are open for amateurs in the scene as well,” says Srinath V.S., member of Power Fight.

One of the major attractions of the championship is the ‘Champion of Champions’, an event slated for the penultimate day where the champions of full contact and K-1 Rule will have a face-to-face encounter. In addition, for four days, girls and women turning up to watch the event will receive a free self defence training session under the aegis of the women’s wing in Kerala Police. They will receive pamphlets for self defence as well.

The 22nd national championship is taking place at Regional Sports Centre at Kadavanthra till August 26. The event is supported by Indian Association of Kick Boxing Organisations (IAKO) and Keranadu Association of Kickboxing Organisations (KAKO).
