Bengaluru Marathon: Bahadur Dhoni, Jyoti Gowate shine bright

Over 15,000 runners took part in the event which had a total prize money of 30 lakh.

Bengaluru: Bahadur Dhoni and Jyoti Gowate bagged the top prize in the elite men and women’s full marathon event in the Sriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon held in the city on Sunday.

Over 15,000 runners took part in the event which had a total prize money of 30 lakh. Dhoni stopped the clock at 2:29.10s to claim the yellow metal while Satyabhan took the second spot with a time of 2:34.37s. Hethram finished the podium spot with a finishing time of 2:35.00s.

In the corresponding women’s event, Jyoti eased to the finish line with a time of 2:59.37s well ahead of Jyoti Singh in second place at 3:27.37s.

Meanwhile in the half marathon event for elite men, Srinu B came in ahead of Belliappa AB by the narrowest of margins to take the gold medal. Srinu stopped the clock at 1:08.51s, just hairsbreadth ahead of Belliappa (1:08.56s) in a thrilling finish. Palisette Kiran took the bronze clocking 1:10.14s.

In the elite female category of the 21.1km race, Priti Lamba claimed the gold as she went past the finish line at 1:22.02s, comfortably ahead S Padmavathi (1:24.03s) and Tippavva Sanakki (1:25.28s) respectively.

Results: Men: Marathon: 1. Bahadur Dhoni 2:29.10s, 2. Satyabhan 2:34.37s, 3. Hethram 2:35.00s. Half marathon: 1. Srinu B 1:08.51s, 2. Belliappa AB 1:08.56s, 3. Palisette Kiran 1:10.14s. Women: Marathon: 1. Jyoti Gowate 2:59.37s, 2. Jyoti Singh 3:27.37s. Half marathon: 1. Priti Lamba 1:22.02s, 2. S Padmavathi 1:24.03s, 3. Tippavva Sanakki 1:25.28s.
