Vizag gears up for national beach kabaddi tourney

The matches will be held in the six courts at RK Beach and the Neo Sports and Studio-N channels will live telecast the championship.

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Kabaddi Association (AKA) pin hopeful that Andhra Pradesh men’s team is heavy favourite to emerge champions in the upcoming 8th national beach kabaddi (men and women) championship to be held at RK Beach in Vizag city from April 16.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, honorary secretary of (AKA) V. Veeralankaiah said that 46 teams including 24 men and 22 women from 24 states will take part in the national beach kabaddi championship, being organised by AKA.

The matches will be held in the six courts at RK Beach and the Neo Sports and Studio-N channels will live telecast the championship. The organisers have fixed the daily ticket price as Rs 150 and Rs 300 and one can grab the tickets at www.meraevents.com and also available at all the leading shopping malls in the city.

The India team for the Beach Asian Games to be held in September this year will be selected from this championship and chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is expected to attend as chief guest of the valedictory programme of the championship in the city on April 19.

Mr Veeralankaiah said that Haryana men’s team is the defending champion in the tournament. The kabaddi tournament will give visual feast to the spectators as all the matches will be held under the flood lights at RK Beach and some entertainment programmes are also planned every day, Mr Veeralankaiah added.
