STAF Sepak Takraw World Cup: Thailand men, women are champions

India and Singapore took bronzes in the men's category while Iran and Malaysia were third in the women's section.

Hyderabad: Thailand men as well as women emerged champions of the ISTAF Sepak Takraw World Cup that concluded at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium at Gachibowli in Hyderabad on Sunday.

India and Singapore took bronzes in the men’s category while Iran and Malaysia were third in the women’s section.

Thailand overpowered Malaysian men in the title round as they closed out the final in two, well-contested straight games that ended 21-19, 23-21.

Both teams went neck-and-neck but the Thais kept their nerves at crucial junctures to clinch the deal.

The first game saw a fierce fight as players from both the teams were up to the task and did not give an inch to their opponents.

The see-saw battle continued before Thailand edged ahead. The second went on similar lines of hard-fought points much to the delight of the spectators.
In the women’s title round, Thailand dominated Vietnam as they won the summit clash with a 21-11, 23-19 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Malaysian team manager Younis has fallen seriously ill and has been admitted to Care Hospital in the city. The Telangana Tourism is looking after his medical bills, according to a press release.

Men’s final: Thailand bt Malaysia 21-19, 23-21.
Women’s final: Thailand bt Vietnam 21-11, 23-19.
