Dominant Donison claims season opener

The 2014 National Rotax Max junior champion Donison of BPC Racing topped the heats and continued his red-hot form to clinch the race comfortably.

Bengaluru: Continuing his dominant run over the weekend, an impressive Ricky Donison clinched Senior Max title in the opening round of the 13th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Rotax Championship at the Meco Kartopia track, here on Sunday.

The 2014 National Rotax Max junior champion Donison of BPC Racing topped the heats and continued his red-hot form to clinch the race comfortably.

“It has been an amazing weekend. It’s a perfect start to the season and has been an incredible weekend,” said Donison.

Having started third on the grid, Rayo Racing’s Ameya Bafna fought his way through to take the second spot. “It’s great to be back on the grid and it was a tough race,” admitted Bafna.

Meanwhile, Nayan Chatterjee of Meco Racing started second on the grid but quickly slipped to sixth place on the first lap. Nayan worked his way up the order to grab third place. “I qualified third, heats third and started third. It was a weak weekend and had to come back stronger. Ricky was definitely untouchable,” said Nayan.

In the Junior Max section, BPC Racing’s promising youngster Manav Sharma started fourth on the grid and went on take home the first round honours owing to some notable tactics.

In the pre-finals, Manav took advantage of a first corner tangle between Yash Aradhya and Chirag Ghorpade to sneak into the lead, which he retained till the chequered flag despite Meco Racing’s Nirmal Umashankar trying his best to chase down the race leader. His team-mate Paul Francis was third.

Meanwhile, Shahan Ali Mohsin, who is leading the cadet class in the Asia Max Championship in Malaysia, won the Micro Max class (7-12 years). Ruhaan Alva was second followed by Peregrine Racing’s Yeasash More in third.
