Adithya lifts open carrom trophy in Hyderabad

S. Appoorwa was crowned the women's singles champion at the state ranking tournament played in Hyderabad.

S. Adithya was crowned winner of the 11th V. Rammohan Rao Memorial state open ranking carrom tournament organised by the Accountant General’s Office Recreation Club in association with the Hyderabad Carrom Association in the city.

In the men’s singles final, Adithya defeated M.A. Hakeem of BSNL in straight games 19-18, 18-12 to take home the silverware. Adithya missed out on a double when he and partner S. Ashwin Kumar lost the men’s doubles final 8-25, 6-25 to the pair of K. Srinivas and Basil Phillips.

Meanwhile, S. Appoorwa, representing LIC, outplayed U. Savitha Devi of Postal 25-4, 24-9 for the women’s singles crown. N. Rama Swamy (AGAP) scaled the veteran men’s summit by defeating A. Srinivasa Rao of BSNL 25-6, 25-7.

In the men’s singles semifinals, Adithya blanked R.D. Dinesh Babu (AGAP) 25-0, 25-0 while Hakeem bounced back from a game down to edge past IOCL’s K. Srinivas (IOCL) 11-22, 24-17, 25-8. Dinesh Babu then made up for his disappointment by beating Srinivas 25-10, 25-10 in the playoff for the third spot.
