Lili Das shines the brightest

The 17-year-old stopped the clock at 4:20.31, comfortably erasing the previous best by Haryana's Pinki Kumar of 4:27.26 set two years ago.

Bengaluru: Lili Das of West Bengal stole the show on the first day of the 14th junior Federation Cup national athletics championship with a lung bursting run to set a new national mark, and also new meet record, in the 1500M event here, on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old stopped the clock at 4:20.31, comfortably erasing the previous best by Haryana’s Pinki Kumar of 4:27.26 set two years ago. With this effort, the SAI athlete also made the qualification mark for the World Junior Athletics Championship, to be held in Poland in July, with ease.

Harmilan Kaur of Punjab (4:28.05) and Durga of Maharashtra (4:38.12) took the silver and bronze medal respectively. In the men’s 100M sprint event, CH Sudhakar of Telangana took home the yellow metal with the time of 10.74 seconds. Haryana’s Chirag (10.81) and Joseph Joe M of Kerala (10.82) took the next two spots.

In the women’s event, Siddhi Hiray of Maharashtra took the top prize stopping the clock at 12.19 seconds. Rajashree Prasa (12.40) of West Bengal and Sweta Hake (12.48) of Maharashtra took the second and third spot respectively.
In the 5000M run, Jothi of Tamil Nadu took the top prize with a time of 17:53.62 seconds after Heena, who finished first, was disqualified for being overage. Uttar Pradesh duo of Sudha Pal (17:59.78) and Kavita Yadav (18.26.91) took the next two spots.

For Karnataka the only medal came from Aishwarya B who claimed the bronze medal in long jump with an effort of 5.60M.
