Germany hope to emulate seniors

Germany may face Brazil in the quarters on October 22 should the latter win against Honduras on Wednesday.

New Delhi: Germany will seek inspiration from their senior team’s famous 7-1 victory over Brazil in the 2014 World Cup, should they face the South Americans in a prospective quarter-final in Kolkata, coach Christian Wueck said.

Germany may face Brazil in the quarters on October 22 should the latter win against Honduras on Wednesday.

Germany humbled five-time world champions and hosts Brazil in the semi-finals at the Maracana Stadium. Germany went to beat Argentina 1-0 in the final for their fourth World Cup title.

Asked about the potential Brazil clash and whether he will motivate his team keeping in mind the 7-1 result, Wueck emphatically said “yes”. “This World Cup is of another level. We started against Costa Rica (2-1). Then it was a bad day against Iraq (who won 4-0). Then against Guinea (3-1 win for Germany) and now we have matched the level that we wanted to see in the championship,” he said.

“It was a very rough game for us so we deserved this victory. It sounds crazy but we have to make more for our chances. So in the next match whether it would be Brazil or Honduras, we have to score more.”
