Cameraman, athletes get into ugly spat

The involved were taken to Sampangi Rama Nagar police station where the issue was resolved after both groups apologised to one another.

Bengaluru: Bystanders witnessed ugly scenes a day prior to the ISL match between Bengaluru FC and FC Pune City when an athlete and a cameraperson came to blows after the athlete asked the latter to move his equipment from the athletics track, at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Thursday.

The cameraman, Vishnu Kant Dixit, who is an employee of IMG-Reliance, claimed to have acted in self-defence by hitting the sprinters with a plastic rope, after he was approached by Commonwealth Games trainees HM Manikanta and MG Padmini.

A brawl ensued and policemen arrived on the scene to separate the two groups. The involved were taken to Sampangi Rama Nagar police station where the issue was resolved after both groups apologised to one another.

This is yet another episode in a long-standing imbrolio between athletes and JSW Bengaluru FC, who seek uninterrupted use of the synthetic track for training purposes.
