ICC World T20: Must-win clash for Indian women

The West Indies, on the other hand, have two wins and a loss so far and will go into Sunday's encounter as favourites.

Mohali: India skipper Mithali Raj wants an “improved batting performance” as they take on the West Indies in a must-win World T20 women’s clash here on Sunday afternoon.

Two back-to-back losses have set back Mithali’s women, who need a huge win on the morrow to keep themselves afloat in the tournament. India won convincingly against Bangladesh before losing to Pakistan (D/L method) and then going down to Group B’’ leaders England.

Said Mithali here on match eve, “As a batting unit, we have to improve and put up runs on the board. The team were under pressure against Pakistan and the loss to England did not help us either. “Tomorrow is a big match and the pressure will be on the seniors. The others too have a significant role to play and we need an all-round show to put it past the West Indies,” she added.

The West Indies, on the other hand, have two wins and a loss so far and will go into Sunday’s encounter as favourites. India need an outright win to avoid crashing out and will hope that the other results too favour them. The team will also look to improve on the net run rate.

The batting will be led by Raj, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy while veteran Jhulan Goswami will spearhead the bowling unit
