The Indian captain tweeted a photo of their 'varmala' ceremony and captioned it, "Today we have promised each other to be bound in love for ever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey."

Anushka Sharma too posted a picture of their wedding ceremony with the same message.

Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir and former cricketers Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar congratulated the couple.

Virat Kohli and Mohammad Amir have shown respect and admiration for each other in the past. In a recent chat show alongside Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, Team India skipper praised the Pakistani bowler

Kohli said: “In the recent times, Mohammad Amir of Pakistan (keeps him on his toes). He is in the top two or three bowlers in the world and the toughest bowlers I have played in my career. You have to be on your ‘A’ Game when you’re facing him or he will strike. Outstanding! Very good bowler!”

Amir, who was recuperating from an injury during that time , appreciated Kohli’s gesture.

Speaking to Wisden India Amir said “It is a great gesture on his part to praise someone and I am floored at his praise of my bowling. The way he presented me with the bat in Kolkatta (during ICC World Twenty20 last year) is an ever green memory for me,”.

“The world knows Kohli is the best. You have to give your best against him. If you give him a chance he takes away the game, like he did in the Dhaka Asia Cup game,” added the Pakistan pacer before saying, “So I have to focus and do my best to target him. He has the best strike rate and average while chasing so he is also the biggest challenge for bowlers around the world.

“You become a better bowler when you bowl well against a batsman like Kohli,” concluded Amir.

Shahid Afridi who retired from cricket earlier this year was gifted a signed Team India jersey. The shirt also had a message from the Team India captain, saying, “To Shahid Bhai, best wishes, always a pleasure playing against you.”

In response to the gesture, Afridi thanked Kohli and the Indian team via his Twitter account for their 'wonderful' farewell gift.

"Thank you to you and the entire Indian team for a wonderful farewell gift @imVkohli. Respect superstar, hope to see you soon," he added.

Kohli and Akhtar have shared great bond for sometime now. In a recent chat show Breakfast with Champions hosted by Gaurav Kapur, Team India skipper had revealed that Akhtar was the terrifying bowler he had ever witnessed and was lucky not to face him. In reply, Akhtar said that he was lucky that he did not bowl to Kohli.
