KOZHIKODE: Kannur District Panchayat’s Science Park, which was in a dormant state for months, is set for a makeover that will include new equipment and projects. The District Panchayat is replacing the old equipment with new ones as well as introducing many new exhibits including Giant lever, Archimedes screw etc. in order to create science awareness among students. The District Panchayat is also planning to launch a project to bring school students from the district to the Park on a regular basis.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, District Panchayat President K.V Sumesh said that the civic body was also planning to conduct monthly classes by experts from science fields on different subjects. “Our aim is to convert this Science Park into a centre which students can rely on to clear their doubts on subjects and to get more information. There are active science clubs in all schools and we are planning to involve their members in the activities here,” he added.
The District Panchayat is also arranging a science show for students and in order to strengthen the activities, a full time director will also be appointed. “Space is a major constraint to develop and expand this Science Park. However, if the Education department co-operates by shifting their offices presently functioning in the building, we can introduce more facilities,” added Mr Sumesh.
