Scientists look for 1st second of universe

By 2030, we can know the first second in the life of our universe through the photons.

TIRUPATI: By 2030, we can know the first second in the life of our universe through the photons, according to the world renowned physicist and gravitational waves expert Kip S. Thorne. While delivering the lecture on ‘Exploring the universe through gravitational waves’, Mr Thorne said the photons which were trapped by the hard matter will bring the information of early universe.

“In the next 15 years, we expect to open four new observatories to detect the gravitational waves at various frequencies. This will throw light about the early universe,” he explained. He also said that through LIGO-India project, the most advanced measurement technology will be shared with Indian scientists. Along with other scientists, he has played a key role in developing the LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) observatories in the US.

Pointing out other fields emerged through LIGO, he said, “Quantum information science, quantum cryptography and quantum computing have emerged from our LIGO labs.” Most notably, he also contributed to the Christopher Nolan’s science fiction Interstellar movie.
