Congress threatens stir over flaws in voter list

Congress submitted a detailed list consisting of 3,152 multiple entries existing in Bahadurpura Assembly

HYDERABAD: The Congress threatened to launch agitation programmes if the Election Commission published final electoral rolls for Assembly polls on October 4 without addressing the anomalies in draft electoral rolls.

Congress leader G. Niranjan on Friday said 3,175 multiple entries were found in polling stations in the Bahadurpura Assembly constituency in draft electoral rolls, which was admitted by the EC too.

During a political parties meeting held on September 19 which was convened by Hyderabad district electoral officer Ronald Rose, the Congress submitted a detailed list consisting of 3,152 multiple entries existing in Bahadurpura Assembly, he said.

“In response to our complaint, the ERO (electoral registration officer), Bahadurpura in his letter dated September 27 addressed to the additional commissioner (elections) confirmed that they found 3,175 multiple entries in the list,” Niranjan said

"The Anganwadi workers are on strike from September 11. They are working as BLOs (booth-level officers) also. As they are on strike and busy in demonstrations etc., is it possible to clear the applications for claims and objections and publish the final voters list on October 4 as scheduled? The EC should give clarity on this issue," Niranjan said.
