Kumaraswamy anounces 50 per cent subsidy for LPG cylinders if voted to power

BENGALURU: Taking a cue from the Rajasthan government’s announcement to supply LPG cylinders to BPL families at Rs 500, Janata Dal Secular (JDS) leader and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday made a similar announcement to give LPG cylinders to families at 50 per cent subsidy, if his party is voted to power in the ensuing Assembly polls.

He told reporters on the sidelines of his ‘Pancharatna’ yatre in Yashwanthpura in Bengaluru that five LPG cylinders would be given for free in a year and said 10 LPG refills for a family would be given at a 50 per cent subsidy. Over the LPG price, he said, it has been ‘shocking’ and the hike in LPG cylinders has burdened the common man with an LPG cylinder costing more than ₹1,000.

Kumaraswamy stated to have several programmes in the offing such as ₹2,000 monthly allowances for the families of auto-drivers of the State. He also assured to initiate steps to concede the demands of Anganwadi workers.

To make his assurances to the people into reality, Kumaraswamy said to hold discussions with financial experts and initiate steps.
