AIADMK candidates file nomination for civic polls

By next week all polling booths stationary materials required for polling will be ready, a senior corporation official said.

Chennai: A day after AIADMK party supremo and Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa released the candidates' list for the local body polls the ruling party's candidates en masse filed their nominations on Tuesday.

In Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts the aspirants filed their nominations post noon and the usual nomination fanfare was missing this time.
Senior AIADMK leaders J.C.D. Prabakar and N. Balaganga also filed their papers at Ambattur and Thiru Vika Nagar zonal offices.

Former MLAs K. Kuppan, V.N.P. Venkatraman and K.P. Kandan also filed nominations. A statement from the district election officer read that on day two, the corporation received 224 nominations with 220 applications coming from recognised political parties.

Meanwhile, Chennai also saw protests in some pockets of south Chennai after a section of AIADMK members expressed dissent over the candidates announced by the party.

Meanwhile, Chennai corporation on Tuesday intensified poll work. Currently the training for the government staff to be deployed for poll duty and the examination of the electronic voting machines are progressing at fast pace.

By next week all polling booths stationary materials required for polling will be ready, a senior corporation official said adding that the 5,500 polling booths will be in place for the October 19 polling.
