Hyderabad: MLAs to get double bonanza

The government has directed officials to issue tenders for construction of new buildings with a deadline to complete works within a year.

Hyderabad: Even as the new MLA Quarters in Hyderguda, being built at a cost of nearly Rs 130 crore, is nearing completion, the TS government has initiated construction of a new 4,000 sq. ft. camp office-cum-residence for MLAs at a cost of Rs 1 crore each, in their constituencies.

The government’s decision to construct new buildings even for city MLAs would impose unnecessary financial burden on the state exchequer as they will get dual benefit of having MLA Quarters in the city as well as the camp office cum-residence in their constituencies.

The government has directed officials to issue tenders for construction of new buildings with a deadline to complete works within a year. The new camp office-cum-residences are being built in duplex mode for all 119 MLAs in the state. They will be built in each Assembly constituency headquarters. Each duplex building would have three bedrooms, spacious visitors’ hall, anterooms etc.

At a time when the government is facing severe shortage of land in the city and is struggling to find place to build 2BHKs for the poor, directions have been issued to the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district collectors to identify 600 sq. yd. plots in each constituency in the GHMC limits. In the districts, collectors have been asked to identify 1,000 sq. yd. plots.

In constituencies where there is no government land, plans are being made to purchase private lands. In areas like Banjara Hills or Jubilee Hills, purchasing a 600 sq. yd. plot would impose heavy financial burden since the land costs over Rs 1 lakh per sq. yd in such localities. Even in other constituencies, the average cost per sq. yd. is over Rs 30,000. There are 24 Assembly constituencies in GHMC limits.

The MLA quarters at Hyderguda will be ready for occupation within three months.
Moreover, 15 spacious visitor halls are being built separately in Hyderguda to enable MLAs meet visitors, especially keeping in mind the needs of city MLAs.
Hyderguda, being centrally located in the city is easily accessible to all from all locations in GHMC limits.
