Rahul, Congress have no right to talk about democracy: Kishan

HYDERABAD: Neither Rahul Gandhi, nor his Congress need to lecture the country about democracy and democratic values, Union minister G. Kishan Reddy said on Tuesday, adding that it was the Congress that overthrew around 90 state governments of which the Gandhi family was responsible for 75 events.

“Former prime minister Indira Gandhi alone misused Article 356 50 times to bring down state governments. It is not democracy but the Congress that is actually in danger,” Kishan Reddy said.

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament House in New Delhi, Kishan Reddy said “Rahul Gandhi is not the first MP to have lost his Parliament membership as have other MPS, and MLAs. What makes Rahul Gandhi special? Even in the recent past, Samajwadi Party MLA Azam Khan and Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha were deprived of membership due to court rulings.” He said Rahul Gandhi had made it “his favourite hobby” to demean Indian institutions and India.

He took aim at other political parties, including the BRS, that have extended support to defend Rahul Gandhi. “The political parties opposing cancellation of Rahul Gandhi's membership in Parliament and supporting his offensive remarks are eroding the sanctity of democratic processes in their respective states,” Kishan Reddy said.
