KJ George back as minister, says truth prevailed!

He told the media soon after taking oath as minister in Raj Bhavan that allegations levelled against him proved as false.

BENGALURU: Minutes after he was re-inducted into the cabinet on Monday, K.J. George said truth had prevailed but those who were eager about a probe by officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into his alleged role in the suicide of deputy superintendent of police M K Ganapati were free to knock on the doors of the court.

He told the media soon after taking oath as minister in Raj Bhavan that allegations levelled against him proved as false. Thanking party president, Sonia Gandhi, and Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah for reposing faith in him, Mr George said “at this moment, my priority is to work towards development, and I will do it.”

Meanwhile, sources in Congress said Mr George, who quit when a local court in Madikeri asked the police to register a FIR against him and two senior police officers, met senior central leaders along with Mr Siddaramaiah last week, and secured their go-ahead for his return to the cabinet. He had earlier held the key portfolio of home.

The news of his return, however, prompted Opposition leaders to threaten state-wide agitation in support of their demand for a probe by the CBI into the suicide of Mr Ganapati.

They have scoffed at the clean chit given by officers of CID. Mr Siddaramaiah and KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar have repeatedly maintained that Mr George was innocent but stepped down only to prevent embarrassment to the ruling party and the state government.
