Ensure Lapses are Not Repeated, Congress to Election Commission

HYDERABAD: Stating that lapses had occurred in the Election Commission’s special campaigns over the weekend, state Congress vice-president G. Niranjan asked for a meeting of all political parties at the senior level to discuss the issue before the next round on September 2 and 3.

In a letter to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer, “The BLOs (booth level officers) were expected to be available in their polling stations along with voter’s lists and relevant forms, from 10.30 am to 5 pm. “But we found that BLOs were not present in several polling stations on the first day and after complaints were lodged there was some improvement on the second day but not to the desired level.”

Citing the lack of relevant forms in many polling stations, he said, “The BLOs are unable to open the app and insisted that the voters open the app helpline in their mobiles and enter the details. Some of the BLOs had the previous voter’s lists without the latest draft voters lists published on August 21, 2023. The details of BLOs are not available in the CEO website since Saturday.”
